Welcome
to my world of pottery. Here
you will find examples of my most recent hand-crafted work -- each piece
unique in its design and color. I have attempted to reflect
my creativity in the various techniques developed over the years.
My
fascination for clay began back in 1975, while living in South
Africa. The
fact that the clay can be manipulated by throwing on the potter’s
wheel, pinched, cut, coiled, slabbed, textured and joined, was especially
appealing to me. It was my good fortune to be under the instruction
of well-known South African potter, Digby Hoets.
After
immigrating to the United States in 1981, I continued with pottery
as a hobby, using my garage as a studio. In March 2005 my hobby
became my fulltime profession. Whether creating by hand
or using the potter's wheel in my new, FULLY EQUIPPED, air-conditioned
studio, my unique designs reflect not only my South African heritage,
but encompass contemporary, universal appeal, being both functional
and decorative.
Through
30 years of growth my work has evolved into a remarkable combination
of vivid, textured designs, overlaid with unusual techniques of glaze
application. Pottery is a never-ending challenge to me, and
I am constantly attempting new ideas, driven by the passion I have
for this craft.
